The song itself shows that us as kids are too worried about the future and what is in store for us in the future, rather than just living in the present and enjoying the life we have now. This part hit me very differently than the rest of the movie. If anything, I feel like weed is just an excuse for people to bring others down for the way they act, at Penn State, the majority of students use this drug, and still are attending this prestigious university and receiving good grades upon that.Īt the end of the movie, Mac and Devin preform the song “young, wild and free” at their graduation. There are people who do not smoke weed who decide to not try in school or life at that matter and obviously marijuana isn’t to blame, it’s just in their nature. In life I feel like there are just lazy people in general. However, Devin was also turned into a pot head and still ended up being his class’s valedictorian and attending a good university, this example may have been in a movie, but it also happens in real life as well. People assume if you are a “pothead” you’re uneducated, lazy, and will succumb to failure (as Mac was portrayed).

However, I think the deeper meaning of the movie is completely overlooked in the eyes of mainstream media/ordinary people.
It may sound really weird that I think this movie is really good, because, well it seems like just another stupid stoner movie. So how do their paths cross? Well, they get paired up for a class project determines whether or not Mac will graduate and get to be with the girl of his dreams, all in the mix he turns Devin into a major pothead. He has never drank, smoked weed or gone to a party before, and had been held up on a pedestal for his entire high school career. The small twist about Mac however is that he is an absolute stoner and is known as the school’s “plug”.ĭevin on the other hand, is the class’s valedictorian. The plot was not as cliche as most movies, Mac (a 15th year senior) falls in love with a new subsitute teacher at their high school, but she says she will not be serious about him until he earns his high school diploma. Last week, I decided to watch Mac and Dev go to High School, which features Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg, and let me tell you, this movie was an absolute masterpiece. For this semester, I decided to change my passion to reviewing movies because I have really gotten into the habit of watching really weird movies when I’m either under the influence or bored.
